If all goes well, there'll be a photo with my blog of a plaque set in our parish garden. It bears the first names of 40 people under 20 years of age. They died in the drug wars of the 1980s, They were all locals from South and Port Melbourne. See the picture and read the blog.

First Eucharist

A reminder for parish children and their parents that preparation sessions start on 4 June. For more information please contact catechist Sue Kidd on 9646 2686

Baptisms - your help is needed

No doubt most parishioners are aware that Father Bob conducts Baptisms most Sundays at 12 noon. We are currently looking for parishioners who would be happy to take turns to help on these occasions. You would need to be at the church for about an hour, starting 15 minutes before the ceremony is due to begin, to welcome family members and answer the questions they have, such as where to sit, when and where they can take photos and where the toilets are.
If you're happy to help, please contact Leonie or Andy from the Hospitality Team:
Andy Sattler (sattler@internode.on.net or Ph: 0458024162); or Leonie Giuffrida (LGiuffrida@studygroup.com or 96816649)

Prayers requested

Your prayers are asked for Louis Perrone, brother of Mario who suffered a stroke last Sunday. Louis is being treated at Monash Medical Centre and will need to go into rehabilitation afterwards. Please keep Louis and his family in your prayers and Masses.
Also, pray for Shona, Fr Bob's niece who is very ill and for a parishioner who is recovering from a coronary artery bypass operation.

Emerald Hill Mission

There are still places available at parish for the EHM race day on 16 May. To join one speak to Kevin Lee (9527 4317) or Colin Crawford (9699 6050).

Special thanks to the South Melbourne Community Chest. They gave EHM a grant of $2000 for its education program. The SMCC operates an Opportunity Shop in Bank Street near Clarendon Street and are always looking for good, clean items for the shop. Please support them when you have that clean out at home or you have finished with your books. Two wonderful ladies from our parish, Lil Bracken and Mavis McCormack worked as volunteers in this shop for many years. They featured in a television programme on the shop a few years ago.

We may be a little late with the news, but are pleased to advise that Ms Corrie Bray of the Emerald Hill Mission is now a new mum, welcoming a daughter, Marly, on 25 February.

Easter Sunday - 10 am

From Fr Bob Maguire - 9 April 2009

They’re cutting down a tall, allegedly dead, tree out the front of this church house.
They all, including the insurance company, sentenced it because it had become a hazard to life and limb.
Thud! I just heard the tallest bits fall, reluctantly, to earth.
We’d known each other for 35 years, more or less.

We express our solidarity with the Parish of Ballan. Fr Mick O’Toole was a deacon here 30 years ago.

A friend of mine, known to disciples of the ABC and SBS (radio and TV), John Safran, sent this email today: “I’m in Jew Town (its real name) in Cochin, India. Cochin is where various Jewish communities have flowed in and out over the ages”. John signs off: 'Happy Pesach' (Passover).
So, here we are, in the deep south of Australia, reading, at 9.30 am, an email sent barely 30 minutes ago, about Jews, Hindus and Muslims gathered, for better or worse, in the middle of one of our world’s most ancient civilisation, India. Read more.
