From Fr Bob Maguire - 23 July 2009

Read, an article about Ted Kennedy, late parish priest, Redfern, Sydney by Frank Brennan.
It’s about a parish priest with a mission, a vocation highly recommended and endorsed by 2000 v 200 bishops at the catholic watershed meeting known as Vatican 2.
I’m a coward in comparison with the prophet Ted. How to creatively handle being marginalised is the question facing me and my parishioners. United we stand, divided we fall. Please read on. Enjoy.

Congratulations to our parish priest

Sincere congratulations to Fr Bob on the 49th Anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood on 24 July 1960 at St. Pat’s. We look forward to celebrating the 50th next year.

Parish library

A library has been established in the front room of the Parish House and Fr Bob has kindly offered an extensive range of books for parishioners to borrow. The topics of the books range from Catholicism, Bibles, other religions, encyclopedia management, novels, etc. It will be open during parish business hours and is comfortably set up. Give Judy a call on 9696 0644 to arrange a time to visit. There is no need to record what you borrow, however, we request that you borrow one book at a time and return within a reasonable timeframe. You are also welcome to contribute books to our library. Please place directly on the shelves in the relevant category.

Do you have or know of anyone who has a piano wanting a new home. Kate Ryan one of our organists is seeking a piano for the Church, as the one that we have is no longer in good playing condition. Kate is also looking for pre loved, standing reading lamps for use by the choir during their rehearsals, which are held in the Church at night. If you have one to spare please give Kate a call.

We had a funeral for Roger last week. He was an ordinary good bloke, partner of Lulu for over 30 years. He wasn’t 'flash' as the world judges but he was 'flash' in our little world. Read more of Father Maguire's blogs

Burst water main on our side of the street or their side of the street? Head Office wants us locals to make decision.
Local useless asset needs to be sold to provide parish with the cash to not only survive but flourish. In this instance, locals can’t make decision head office wants to.
What the! Anyway, this is the year of the “Parish Priest” according to our Roman uber head office. They even pick a patron, John Vianney, Cure of Ars, who was born in France, 1786, died France, 1858.
