Pastoral Care Visits - Napier St Aged Care Accommodation This will be my third year visiting the elderly at Napier St. I go there every Wednesday to join the group for the Rosary, then I give them Communion and also bring them a copy of the Southerly Buster. We say a few prayers for special or general intentions. During my period of visiting we have lost a few Catholics, including John Lenaghan, a parishioner of long standing at Sts Peter & Paul and Greg Welsford, a really interesting and lovely man, whom I really miss.
In the group remaining, one is 103 and the others are in their late 80s or early 90s. All, while physically infirm to some degree, are absolutely ‘with it’ and great people, with memories and experience, and I really count them as friends. I had a short break from visiting last year when my husband was recovering from a major heart operation, during which time Gertie Davidson kindly replaced me. When I returned I was touched that they remembered Francis’ operation, and seemed really happy to see me back. One of the group is Shirley Sinclair, known to most people at Sts Peter & Paul.
I sometimes chat with others when I go, including those who have varied views about the Church, so I try where possible to represent Catholics in a positive way.
