Baptism is one of the Sacraments of Initiation and celebrates ones reception into the Christian community.

Adult Baptisms

Sts Peter and Paul’s offers instruction all year round for adults wishing to be baptised. Adult baptisms generally occur at the Easter Vigil Mass, but they can also be arranged at other times.

Infant Baptisms

Most infant baptisms at Ss peter and Paul are private ceremonies, generally celebrated outside of Mass.

Baptism times

Sts Peter and Paul’s is a very popular wedding church. Because weddings are booked so far in advance, it’s not always possible to book a baptism at short notice. Nonetheless, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

The liturgy for infant baptism is about half an hour long. Baptisms may be booked for the following times:

  • 12:00pm

  • 11:00am

  • Baptisms can be celebrated on any weekday, subject to the church’s availability

As part of the preparations, parents are required to come to one of our 1st Sunday 10.00am Masses where your child will be presented to the parish community along with all the other children who are to be baptised in the following weeks. There will be a brief session immediately after the Mass with our Baptism Catechist, Mrs Sue Kid, who will explain the rite of Baptism to you and the other parents who are present.

A Godparent is a "sponsor", therefore should be a member of the organisation which the child is joining. The Godparents' role is to support the child in the development of the Catholic faith. Therefore, one Godparent MUST be a Catholic who has been confirmed. Non- Catholic Christians who serve as an important support to the faith life of the child, may be considered as Christian witnesses. Still, there must be one Catholic godparent. It is possible that someone may “stand in” for a godparent who is not able to be present at the Baptism.
